Wiesenhof Achieves Efficiency In Food Logistics

Lohne, Germany

Cold Chain Logistics for Wiesenhof’s New DC

The German poultry processing company Wiesenhof is part of the PHW Group, one of Germany’s largest producers and suppliers of poultry meat. After Wiesenhof experienced a major fire, they saw an opportunity to incorporate innovations in cold chain logistics into their new meat processing facility and distribution center. They partnered with TGW Logistics to add automated material handling systems in two different temperature zones for refrigerated and freezer goods, resulting in the shipment of more products and better processes for cartons and crates, all while meeting food safety standards. With innovative automation technology and a partly redundant design, their new system boasts automated palletizing, automated goods receiving, and the ability to consolidate multiple deliveries for efficient shipping.

About Wiesenhof

The German poultry producer Wiesenhof, headquartered in Lohne, Germany, is part of the PHW Group. PHW is one of Germany’s largest producers and processors of poultry meat and supplies supermarkets and discounters.

How TGW Logistics Made It Possible

When Wiesenhof was faced with rebuilding its warehouse after a fire, the company decided to update its cold chain logistics. They wanted innovative automation technology to boost poultry meat distribution, product availability, and operational flexibility. We helped them meet their goals.

Benefits of Working with TGW Logistics

  • Wiesenhof has more flexible and reliable food logistics processes thanks to direct carton handling and the use of Euro boxes.
  • The company enjoys increased efficiency with its new material handling systems and innovative automation technology.
  • Our warehouse management software keeps everything at Wiesenhof working smoothly by coordinating all processes and systems.

Better Cold Chain Logistics with TGW Logistics

Easier, Faster Storing and Receiving

Our systems allow both in-house products and external goods to be consolidated in the distribution center. Depending on the requirements, the external pallets are transported to the pallet high-bay warehouse or are depalletized directly.

Order Picking That’s Smart and Efficient

Our layer palletizing is a particular highlight of Wiesenhof's cold chain logistics. Poultry products from in-house production and external products are immediately sent to the automated palletizing station, where three gantry robots palletize up to 16 SKUs in parallel, or the products are transported to the picking buffer (shuttle warehouse). Non-mixed pallets can also be stored in the pallet warehouse based on the respective order, and from there, they can go to non-mixed negative picking with the aid of depalletizing robots or directly to the outbound area.

Smooth, Intuitive Shipping

The customer pallets are sorted and made available with route grouping using the automated pallet buffer.

With TGW Logistics' warehouse management software at the helm, processes across the distribution center are seamlessly and powerfully connected.
