Bileko Car Parts Enhances Logistics Through Automation

Strängnäs, Sweden

Innovations for Industrial Logistics

After consolidating two fulfillment centers into one centralized location in Strängnäs, Bileko Car Parts partnered with TGW Logistics to streamline industrial logistics and boost productivity. Using the latest warehouse automation, Bileko saw improvements in customer service while reducing costs, resulting in improved operations and efficiency. Bileko can now easily accommodate three order types: branch replenishment, workshop orders, and e-commerce direct delivery.

About Bileko Car Parts and Mekonomen

In 2012, Mekonomen bought its former competitor MECA. In 2015, the two companies merged logistics. This meant moving from the MECA warehouse in Eskilstuna and centralizing operations in the 30,000 sq. m. Mekonomen warehouse in Strängnäs, one hour southwest of Stockholm. The new warehouse was expanded to form a flexible, cost-efficient, state-of-the-art supply chain solution. Mekonomen is a leading Swedish and Norwegian aftermarket brand for spare parts, tools, and workshop equipment, with Bileko Car Parts covering operations.

How TGW Logistics Made It Possible!

PickCenter One

Order cartons are now handled at the PickCenter One workstations. This simplifies unpacking/repacking, picking, and packaging no matter how big the order is or how many staff members are available. Bileko Car Parts can now handle fluctuating order types and sizes to improve order fulfillment–freeing up employees to focus on other tasks.

Stingray Shuttle System

After being picked, order cartons are consolidated via the TGW Logistics Stingray shuttle system, which encompasses 100 shuttles roaming 58 levels in four aisles and 108,000 storage locations—handling up to 3,000 totes per hour. This system means smoother outbound operations.

Lifetime Services

Bileko Car Parts signed a five-year Lifetime Services agreement with a dedicated on-site engineering team, remote support for PLC controls, a Warehouse Control System (WCS), Warehouse Management System (WMS), and spare parts. On weekdays, three TGW resident engineers monitor and maintain the site between 7:00 a.m. and 8:30 p.m. The UK hotline supports controls, while Else delivers and maintains WCS/WMS.

Highlights of Bileko’s Logistics Solutions

  • Smart Solutions for Productivity

The new system ensures better industrial logistics and higher productivity across all three order types. The end-to-end workflow integration means better productivity and decreases lead times.

  • Single-Item-Picking: An Ideal Omni-Channel Solution

The TGW Logistics FlashPick system manages the fulfillment of small parts orders. Order cartons are created at ergonomic PickCenter One workstations, consolidated via the shuttle system, and manually released to outbound. At the same time, large, bulky products are manually picked, and all orders are consolidated.

This leads to improved efficiency, reduced costs, and better customer service.
