Commissioning Engineer - Market Harborough

The Commissioning Engineer plays a crucial role in TGW Northern Europe’s Controls Team, ensuring the successful delivery of our projects. This position involves creating software, conducting emulation, and commissioning Level 2 PLC control systems for our automated materials handling solutions, including commissioning and system testing. To achieve project success, the engineer collaborates closely with control services Managers and the Lead Commissioning Engineer (ComC Lead). Additionally, the role includes supporting Junior Commissioning Engineers and Apprentices in project-related activities. Effective communication with Project Managers, Controls, Engineering Designers, and Customers is essential, both at our UK Head Office and various installation sites across Northern Europe. The Commissioning Engineer also promotes a culture of continuous improvement, emphasising personal development for all team members.

WHAT YOU'LL BE HANDLING

Pre-site Phase Assist the ComC Lead in creating:
  • 3rd party interface documents
  • The Functional Design Specification (FDS) for PLCs
  • PLC module lists
 
  • Generate PLC code using TGW standard tools and architecture, ensuring adherence to version control
  • Emulate PLCs and subsystems per goal definitions
Site Phase
  • Take ownership of PLC areas/products, resolving software, hardware, or electrical issues
  • Perform full Level 2 PLC commissioning
  • Commissioning communications with WCS/WMS systems
  • Testing and verifying emergency stop systems
  • Integrating and testing third-party equipment
  • Identify and rectify software, hardware, and electrical faults
  • Collaborate with the Lead, engineers, and project managers on system testing and PLC functionality verification
  • Attend daily controls stand-up meetings for progress updates and resource planning
  • Support the technical development of Junior ComC Engineers and apprentices

What you'll need

To be successful in your application, you will need the ability to work effectively within a team and coordinate activities when required. You should have proven experience in generating PLC code, ideally using Siemens PLCs, along with knowledge and experience in commissioning and testing automated systems. A solid understanding of control systems is essential, including networking and hardware components, Fieldbus technology such as Profibus, Profinet, and ASi, as well as motion control via inverters and servo drives. Additionally, you should possess strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
