Mango Achieves New Performance Levels at DC

Barcelona, Spain

Warehouse Automation Boosts Capacity at Mango

With business at an all-time high, Mango, a Spanish fashion retailer, consolidated its operations into a centralized, global distribution center in the Catalan municipality of Lliça d’Amunt. Mango partnered with TGW Logistics to implement warehouse automation and optimize their multi-channel logistics to achieve faster delivery times and reduced fulfillment costs. Now, Mango provides order fulfillment for more than 2,200 stores in over 100 countries. Thanks to the scalability of its new automated warehouse systems, Mango is nimble, flexible, and ready for further growth.

About Mango

Mango was founded in 1984 and is headquartered in Lliça d’Amunt (Barcelona). It is one of the world's leading fashion chains, selling apparel, shoes, bags, and accessories online and in over 2,200 brick-and-mortar stores. The company has a presence in over 100 countries.

Highlights of Mango’s DC & Multi-Channel Logistics

Mango is poised for more business growth thanks to the system's scalability and flexibility to handle multi-channel orders.

Mango was able to reduce its inventory and fulfillment costs.

By consolidating two DCs into one, Mango can supply more than 2,200 stores in over 100 countries.

Mango simplified its processes from goods receipt to goods issue for greater efficiency, time, and money.

Solutions from TGW Logistics Made It Possible

One-Touch Receiving for Smooth Performance

One-Touch Receiving, a smart inbound processing and storage system, allows Mango to automate its goods receipt process. Using high-performance conveyor systems, Mango’s goods receipt area handles up to 6,000 cartons per hour. Cartons are loaded onto extended conveyors from trucks and automatically stored in a mini-load warehouse. The automated double-stacked mini-load aisles provide 850,000 storage locations for cartons of different sizes. High-performance cranes store and retrieve up to 6,500 cartons per hour.

Order Fulfillment Made Simple

Items retrieved from the mini-load system are repackaged into totes at toting stations before being stored in the shuttle system. Depending on the order type, the shuttle warehouse provides a dynamic buffer for order fulfillment and multi-channel logistics via picking workstations or sorters.

  • Cross-belt sorters process most orders. Speeds range from 25,000 items per hour with low picking ratios up to 30,000 items per hour with higher ratios. These are loaded onto the cross-belt sorter at ergonomic infeed stations. The sorters transport individual items to chutes, offloading them according to pre-cubing algorithms. At the end of the chutes, items are packed in order cartons.
  • Prioritized orders, non-sortable items, and slow-moving items are processed at high-performance goods-to-person picking stations.

A Smarter Approach to Order Consolidation & Shipping

As part of Mango’s warehouse automation, orders from the sorters or the goods-to-person workstations are consolidated in an automated mini-load warehouse and transported to shipping. A linear sorter routes the order cartons to dedicated lanes, where 5,800 cartons per hour are loaded into trucks.

Maximizing Space with a Multi-function Carton Warehouse

A highlight of Mango’s warehouse automation is its space maximization within an enormous two-level automatic push/pull carton warehouse with 850,000 storage locations. The carton warehouse is used for inventory storage and order consolidation and provides a dispatch buffer for flat and hanging goods (packed as flats in cartons before shipping).
