TGW Logistics Makes Fulfillment Scalability Possible for Würth Elektronic eiSos

Waldenburg, Germany

Expansion of Distribution Center

A leading European manufacturer of electronic and electromechanical components, Würth is known for its stellar customer service. Their state-of-the-art distribution center in Waldenburg, Germany, allows them to ship to customers with speed and efficiency. After several years of sales growth, Würth decided to expand its warehouse and double the capacity of the order fulfillment system. With TGW Logistics as a partner, Würth embarked on an exciting modernization project to scale the facility with innovative consumer goods logistics.

Our Mission

  • Install a scalable fulfillment system to facilitate expansion
  • Carry out all modifications within the project time frame–outside of business hours.
  • Reduce the total cost of ownership by using identical parts.
  • Create an automated material handling solution that allows the company to adapt as orders increase.

Bringing Automation to Consumer Goods Logistics

Optimizing the Goods Receipt Process

In the receiving area of Würth’s distribution center, we implemented our KingDrive conveyor system. As goods arrive, they’re loaded directly onto the conveyor in cartons or decanted into totes. From there, a high-performance conveyor sends the cartons or totes to picking and packaging stations.

Automated Storage

The conveyor loop also transports goods to a six-aisle warehouse for storage. Our energy-efficient Stingray shuttle system reduces the need for manual material handling. Before entering the warehouse, goods are automatically measured to ensure optimal storage capacity.

Efficient Order Picking and Shipping

We equipped the center with ten ergonomic goods-to-person workstations, facilitating fast and accurate order picking. These workstations streamline the picking of small orders, perfect for Würth’s trademark service of sending free samples to developers. After goods are picked, they’re sent to packing stations and routed to two shipping lanes for distribution. Empty totes are automatically stacked in six lanes.

Control and Adaptability

TGW Logistics’ warehouse management software (WMS) orchestrates all operational functions. This flexible warehouse management system controls all processes from inbound to outbound and allows for further adaptation and growth.

Innovative Warehouse Logistics

As their central transfer depot, Würth Elektronic’s distribution center in Waldenburg plays an essential role in maintaining the brand’s reputation as a reliable electronics distributor. By helping them scale the center through warehouse automation, TGW Logistics further innovated Würth’s consumer goods logistics, boosting fulfillment numbers and streamlining material flow.
