Conrad Electronic partners with TGW Logistics to Expand Operations

Wernberg, Germany

New Warehouse Logistics at Conrad’s DC

With a product range of over 700,000 items, Conrad Electronic is popular with fans of electronic gadgets and tech gear. However, after years of solid growth, Conrad’s distribution center in Wernberg, Bavaria, was nearing capacity. After partnering with TGW Logistics to incorporate automated warehouse systems, Conrad expanded its central warehouse facility and improved their warehouse logistics. The highlight of Conrad’s new system is a powerful, dynamic shuttle system connected to goods-to-person order picking systems that use pick-to-light workstations.

About Conrad

Conrad Electronic is a family-owned company founded in 1923. Since 1946, it’s been headquartered in Hirschau in the Upper Palatinate region of eastern Bavaria. Conrad is an omni-channel provider of tech gear and electronic goods with an international presence in 16 European countries.

Conrad is committed to offering the best service for its customers - both in the B2C and B2B space. The existing fulfillment system wasn’t meeting their standards or providing enough flexibility for their omni-channel activities. It was time for an update. TGW Logistics developed a solution that met Conrad’s goals and provided more space, capacity, and output.

How TGW Logistics Made It Possible!

Advanced Storage and Retrieval

The core of the new system is an automated shuttle warehouse comprised of 15 aisles, each with 46 levels. TGW Logistics’s Stingray shuttles provide storage and retrieval. This gives Conrad more efficient storage and higher throughput speeds.

Accelerated, Accurate Picking

With a goods-to-person picking system, automation saves time and labor. TGW Logistics order picking uses goods-to-person workstations. Operators follow touchscreen picking dialogs following the "pick-to-light" principle, maximizing the pick rate. TGW Logistics integrated 30 workstations with sequenced totes arriving from the shuttle system. With order picking systems ready to handle multiple orders at workstations, Conrad achieves 300 picks/hour.

More Output for Packing and Shipping

At over 40 stations, the packaged cartons are routed to the shipping area. A TGW Logistics Natrix shoe sorter increases total output. The cartons are automatically sealed and labeled.

Improved Customer Service

With an advanced warehouse inventory management system, Conrad’s high-performance warehouse fulfills orders from various sales channels within a single facility, leading to faster deliveries and better customer service.

Doubled Capacity with Room to Grow

With the new fulfillment center, Conrad now has a higher storage capacity. Twice as many orders can be processed, equaling about 100,000 customer deliveries per day. Moreover, Conrad’s warehouse logistics set the company up for continued growth and capacity.

A Strong SAP Platform

A SAP IT platform with storage management and a material flow control system provides a future-proof support system.

Satisfed Customer

“We know how our business works, and we knew that our growth would result in a logistics center that did not suit our needs anymore. We always have to think about our future, and the TGW logistics center was a solution that provided us with both: capacity and performance.”
